The people over at Wondetime(a Disney publication) have given step-by-step directions on how to create your very own scratch & sniff art with a little water and Kool-Aid. My kids aren't quite able to draw out the fruit bowl as suggested, so I sketched out a few of our favorite fruits and let them paint those.

They had fun. The cleanup was easy. And my dining room now smells very sweet!

It’s October so let’s get ready for Halloween! For families that choose not to participate in Halloween this craft can still be useful, simply leave out the red fangs and change up the color scheme.

It’s October so let’s get ready for Halloween! For families that choose not to participate in Halloween this craft can still be useful, simply leave out the red fangs and change up the color scheme.

Gather your materials. You will need black, red and orange construction paper, glue, some crayons, scissors and googly eyes.

Start by having your child draw a bunch of fun nighttime things on the orange paper, stars, a moon, even an owl would be great! You can help if your little one is still young or skip it like we did. I added the stars, etc… after we were done just for y’all.

Trace your child’s hands on black paper.

Have your child color the hands with a white crayon.

While they are coloring, draw a bat head. Don’t worry about making mistakes we’ll use the opposite side and cut out small red fangs.

Cut the head and hands out.

Put two globs of glue on your orange paper for the hands.

Pop the hands on, don’t worry about what sides are up, one of ours is upside down , but make sure they meet in the middle .

Add the head.

Glue on the fangs. I usually add the glue then help direct him where to put them, saying things like " Can you point the triangle down,” but if I wasn’t blogging it I wouldn’t be so concerned with how it “looks.” A good tip is to talk about what you are adding saying "Fangs are big teeth, where should the bat’s teeth go?”

Add the eyes! If your child is still eating things like mine did forever, you can draw eyes on with a white crayon instead.

All done! A fun Halloween, or Nocturnal Animal, craft you can enjoy making with your little one.

I love museums. The way they look, the way they smell and perhaps the way they take me back in time to my schooldays. Those anticipated days "off" from school when Mom packed special treats in my lunchbox and I got to ride the school bus with my friends.

As a mom, I love taking advantage of our local museum's kid free programs. The boys love looking at fossils and learning about different pre-historic animals. They also love art–both admiring and creating. So when I saw this absolutely fabulous project on No Time for Flash Cards I had to share it with all of you.

It's so simple and easy and will lend hours of fun for your kiddos. I also love how you can incorporate art history lessons in a fun and practical way. I think children grasp concepts much more easily when introduced in a fun way. The possibilites are endless with this project!

This was a spur of the moment activity. My son kept pretending to put a card into a kitchen cabinet saying "Into the mailbox." I jumped on this and am so glad I did. I say often that following your child's interests is key and if I had a video stream of my house today I could prove my point even better. My son played with this from the time we made it until bed time. He kissed it goodnight at nap and bedtime. If you have half as much fun as he did with it, I'll be happy.

Gather your materials. You will need a rectangular box, some craft paper, markers, tape, scissors , envelopes, stickers and a piece of white paper.

Start by cutting off one end of the box.

Cut a slot ( make it wider than I did if you don't want to be saying "Try it the other way, turn it around" 300 times between frustrated 2 year old almost tantrums)

Wrap the box like a present in the craft paper.

Cut the paper where the slot it and tape it on the inside.

Time to color, let your child go nuts. I just let him go for it.

Make a sign (if your child can do this, have them do it!)

Tape it on.

Time to make the mail- I used blank envelopes. Have your child add addresses. If they can write letters, do that too. No matter what stage they are at have them add the address. If it's scribbles, cool. If it's a full address, that's great.

Add a "stamp." We used stickers.

Play! My son filled the mail box then declared " Delivery time!" knocked it over took the mail and delivered it around the house. Then repeated this many many times.

One tip, wait until the glue is all dry before putting the contact paper on, I wasn't patient and the glue squished.

Gather your materials. You will need a piece of paper towel, some red, white and blue paper, a star paper punch, scissors, glue and contact paper.

Start by cutting your blue paper into a square that takes up almost a quarter of the upper left corner of your paper towel.

Cut your red paper into stripes, some long, some short.

Punch stars out of your white paper

Add glue to your blue

Add the stars

Add glue for the stripes and start adding them.
